Bethlyn is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and co-owner of Believe In Therapy Geneva
Bethlyn believes that transparency and authenticity are the cornerstones of a strong therapeutic relationship. She believes humans are incredibly resilient and adept at navigating life, even though they often get in their own way. This is where therapy becomes a powerful tool. It allows clients to observe themselves from a “curious scientist” perspective, giving them the opportunity to learn new coping strategies and enact meaningful change. Through years of clinical practice, she has learned that therapy isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” solution, and that supporting and exploring her client’s unique talents lead to amazing results.
Her style is casual yet clinical. Bethlyn began her career with a bachelors degree from North Central College in sociology, so her framework is deeply rooted in social psychology and cultural anthropology. She earned her Master's in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University in 2011, with a sub-specialty in children and adolescents.
Bethlyn specializes in working with teens and college-age students, providing a unique understanding of the challenges they face. Her clinical specializations also include disordered eating, eating disorders, body image concerns, and complex trauma. As a HAES® (Health At Every Size) aligned therapist, her passion is to help clients develop a relationship with food and their body that is enjoyable, flexible, and sustainable. She approaches this work from a harm-reduction perspective, rejecting the coercive and compliance-based treatment models often found in traditional care. Her membership in the ASDAH (Association for Size Diversity and Health) further reinforces her belief that all bodies deserve respect and compassionate care.
